Therapy FAQs

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based, attachment-focused approach to therapy that helps individuals, couples, and families create secure, lasting emotional bonds. Grounded in decades of research, EFT helps identify negative interaction cycles, access deeper emotions, and strengthen connection.

At The Relationship House in Cumberland, all of our therapists are trained in EFT. Whether you are seeking couples therapy, individual therapy, or family therapy in North Metro Atlanta, our work is rooted in attachment science and trauma-informed care.

How is EFT different from traditional couples therapy?

Many traditional approaches focus primarily on communication skills or problem-solving. EFT goes deeper.

Rather than teaching surface-level strategies, EFT helps couples understand the emotional and attachment needs driving their conflict. When partners feel emotionally safe and understood, communication naturally shifts. EFT is one of the most researched and effective models for couples therapy, with strong long-term outcomes.
